Movie of the Month - There Will Be Blood
We must treasure and admire the work of Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, Boogie Nights), why? Well the answer is simple, he has established himself as one of the greatest American no non-sense filmmakers of a generation. His 2007 epic, There Will Be Blood affirms this theory. This nearly three hour opus takes place at the turn of last century in California and is the perfect film to echo our times. The story of Daniel Plainview, played by the brilliant Daniel Day-Lewis in the role that won him his second Oscar. Plainview is a greedy oil Baron that outsmarts everyone in a small town filled with oil, he outsmarts everyone but one...a small preacher played by Paul Danno, who stands in Plainviews way of soaking up all the oil under their feet. This is a remarkable picture and one to be admired. Backed by a haunting score created by Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood, the sounds that Greenwood had composed compliment the actions of the actors perfectly. This is a film that will leave you in awe and suck the life from you and your milkshake.
