FREE FITZ & THE TANTRUMS LIVE EP!
QUICK NEWS
Jarvis Cocker told NME what is up with Pulps future plans. Cocker said, "I suppose once you've done that, the next thing is; would you make some new music? I've enjoyed the fact that we haven't been doing any new stuff, because I feel that's kept it quite simple. It's hard one. We haven't been in the studio or anything. I don't know what will happen in the future."
Englands Chapel Club have something brewing in their system. Their website currently features a clock counting down to an unknown announcement.
Could Jack White produce the new Rolling Stones record? Keith Richards believes the possibility could be there after Richards just worked with White on some cuts. Richards told Rolling Stone magazine, "I enjoy working with Jack. We've done a couple of tracks. I don't know if ever considered that it was actually, like, master cuts. But at the same time if Jack wanted to do it, I'd probably say, 'Yeah.'' I know Jack pretty well. He's a lovely player."
Gallows will release their third album and first with new singer Wade McNeil in September. The band self-title will contain 12 tracks. Take a look at the tracklisting below:
Victim Culture'
'Everybody Loves You (When You're Dead)'
'Last June'
'Outsider Art'
'Vapid Adolescent Blues'
'Austere'
'Depravers'
'Odessa'
'Nations'
'Never Enough'
'Cult Of Mary'
'Cross Of Lorraine'
Justice just secretly released a new EP called New Lands EP which contains five remixes of the single "New Lands."

EXCLUSIVE! Savoir Adore INTV!
Whimsical, dreamlike indie pop seems to be what has been coming out of Brooklyn these days with acts like Tanlines, Grimes and Savoir Adore. Savoir Adore is comprised of a full band, but its masterminds and leaders are Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro, whose childlike innocence and fantasy inspired sound have taken them from just another Brooklyn band and one of the biggest buzz bands in indie music right now. As the band are currently on tour all summer to support their new record, Our Nature, we spoke to Muro about their music, where they want this band to go and their influences. Take a look:
According
to legend, the band started over a 48-hour challenge. What was the challenge
and who put you up to the task?
At the end of 2006, we were
both performing as solo artists, and both had the urge to step out of our
boxes. We wanted to collaborate for fun, so we picked a weekend and took
a train upstate (NY) to Paul's parents' house to create something in his dad's
studio. We decided that we would make an ambitious mini-album, with the
one rule being no plain acoustic guitars. We wrote the song titles on the
train ride up, and jammed for a long time, cherry-picking the best nuggets from
our recorded sessions. We then shaped and edited into what is now our EP
"The Adventures of Mr. Pumpernickel and the Girl With Animals in her
Throat."
Given
that it was a sheer dare that the band came together, do you ever stop and
think that it was fate that led you to this path? Like all of this was supposed
to happen?
Definitely!
Hailing
from Brooklyn, how has the borough inspired your work?
Probably mostly through
encouragement and excitement of like-minded artists. The energy of a lot of
people around you creating new things and working really hard.
With
a plethora of bands coming from Brooklyn, how does Savoir Adore stand out from
the pack?
We don't really know! We
try to make an exciting blend of music, and that's done well for us so far.
With
so many bands from Brooklyn all competing for the same goal, there also seems
to be a big camaraderie among the artists. Do you think it is because everyone
is chasing the same dream?
I don't think everyone is
chasing the same dream exactly - but I think there is a lot of camaraderie
because we are all going through similar experiences, crossing paths all the
time. I think a common interest in experimentation and the excitement of being
part of a musical neighborhood leads to that sense of collaboration and
community. We've experienced it quite a bit here and it's lovely.
The
bands sound is very European and very pop but also very New York, what inspired
your work?'
That blend is probably a
result of our collective musical backgrounds. We were both raised with
classical training, but also with a lot of exposure to all eras of rock &
jazz. Also, a lot of our songwriting and production comes from pure
experimentation so the inspiration is often subconscious…taking our influences
and mushing them together in odd and fun ways.
Since
2009 you have been steadily creating a buzz for yourself but in 2011, you were
one of the big breakout bands of CMJ. Now that people are really starting to
pay attention, how does all of this feel?
It
pretty much feels the same… we're just continuing to make our music the best we
can! It's of course a great feeling to know that more and more people are
listening to our music, but we try not to think or worry about it too much.
You
signed with Neon Gold Records, what is it like to be apart of the Neon Gold
family?
We put out our vinyl 7"
of "Dreamers" with Neon Gold and I think it is the most perfect fit for
that song. It couldn't have gotten out into the world in a better way.
Besides being part of an amazing series of releases, it's also been a pleasure
playing Neon Gold shows and events this year… it really is a family of
inspiring and creative people.
What has been the
biggest highlight about being in this band so far?
Being able to share our music
with lots of people, and performing in beautiful venues.
Where would you like Savoir Adore to take
you?
Adventures around the world,
and collaborations with other artists in all mediums!

Quick News
Good news for fans of Brazilian Girls, the indie rockers have reunited and are no longer on hiatus. The band played a comeback show in Brooklyn earlier in the week.
Have the defunct Grit-rock band Viva Brother reformed as a boy band? Viva Brother, the British band who released their debut, Famous First Words, last year and were constantly having to change their name have apparently become a boy band based in Brooklyn. The group are calling themselves Lovelife and on their website, shows a picture of Viva singer Lee Newell. We are just as confused by this as you are. One year ago, we interviewed the band during their second named change when they were BROTHER (UK), take a look at that HERE.
Finally after nearly a year of build-up, Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music compilation, Cruel Summer will finally arrive on August 7. The album will feature West along with 2Chainz, Frank Ocean, Jay Electronica, Big Sean and many more.
Following Fridays tragic stage collapse in Toronto, which left Radiohead's drum tech dead. Radiohead have now issued another statement concerning the future of them on the road via their website. Take a look below:

Hello everyone,
As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.
Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows...
We will make every effort to offer the fans the very best show possible under the circumstances – thanks for your understanding and support.

QUICK SPINS
Anywhere
Progressive power trio super-group releases their debut and
given the bands roster, it is just as freakisly bizaare and brilliant as you
would think. Mars Volta / At the Drive-In’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Mike Watt of
The Minutemen / Stooges / fIREHORE and Christian Eric Beaulieu of Triclops,
link up for a record that goes into very twisted territory and a new
exploration in sound and style. Fans of Mars Volta will eat it up but will also
bask in the idea that Cedric is now in a band stranger than Volta.
FINAL GRADE: A-
Yawn – Happy Tears EP
Chicago’s new buzz band arrive with a debut that is just as
colorful as their live sets. Yawn combine electronic beats and mix it with pop
hooks which make them one of the most catchy new bands to emerge in a very long
time.
FINAL GRADE: A-
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – The Lion The Beast The
Beat
New England’s Grace Potter returns with her biggest sounding
record to date. Taking stadium size rock and roll riffs and bringing in her
signature storytelling, The Lion The Beast The Beat is a record that hears
Potter showcasing more testicular fortitude than most men in rock these days.
FINAL GRADE: B+
The Tallest Man on Earth – There’s No Leaving Now
The Swedish singer/songwriter Kristian Matsson aka The
Tallest Man on Earth returns with a record that hears him straying away from
the lo-fi, natural sounds that launched his career and bringing in a bit more
edge and sound for someone who was getting comparisons to a Swedish Bon Iver.
There’s No Leaving Now might just be Matsson’s finest work to date.
FINAL GRADE: B+
FINAL GRADE: B+
Neil Young and Crazy Horse – Americana
Neil Young and Crazy Horse reunite for the first time since
2004 and bring an edge to their already massive and impressive rock and roll
career together. Americana, much like Bruce Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball and
Patti Smith’s Banga, it hears the elder statesmen of rock and roll taking on
the state of the global union and showing the kids how to do it.
FINAL GRADE: B
Big K.R.I.T. – Live from the Underground
The Roots favorite rapper brings forth his new record and
puts a microphone up to the problems in the projects, society and why the youth
of today needs more hope than what they have been given.
FINAL GRADE: B
Glen Hansard – Rhythm and Repose
The Frames / Swell Season front man and Oscar® winner goes
solo for the first time and produced by the brilliant Doveman aka Thomas
Bartlett, Hansard brings his brilliant songwriting to an independent level.
Musically, it is the sensitive folk that Hansard has impressed the world with
in The Swell Season, but as anyone knows, this Irishman has a lot to say, it is
the lyrics that make Rhythm and Repose a worthwhile listen.
FINAL GRADE: B
Langehorn Slim and the Law – The Way We Move
The Brooklyn folk singer is back, but with a new band that
makes his sound electric. The Way We Move is Slim dabbling into the territory
Bob Dylan did when he dropped the acoustic and picked up his electric and
shocked the folk world.
FINAL GRADE: B
Motion City Soundtrack – Go
Who knew that Motion City Soundtrack still had good songs
left in them? Go hears the band maturing and progressing in all the right ways,
while it took them years to get to this level, if they manage to sustain it,
Motion City’s career will last longer than most of the bands that came up with
them in the emo-pop movement.
FINAL GRADE: B
Guided by Voices – Class Clown Spots a UFO
The “classic” GBV line-up is back with a record that hears
the indie legends bringing it back to their roots. The second of three albums
to be released this year from the Ohio band is a better effort than the
enjoyable Lets go Eat the Factory, which arrived earlier this year.
FINAL GRADE: B
The Melvins – Freak Puke
The Washington indie rock legends return with their 18th
album and stick to the signature sound that has made them last so long.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Erin McCarley – Elevator EP
The Nashville via Texas singer/songwriter returns after
2009’s breakthrough debut, Love, Save the Empty, with a handful of songs that
will get fans excited about a new record and those who have not heard her
before something to check out.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Tanlines – Mixed Emotions
The Brooklyn ambient, electronic duo who have been much
hyped since the release of their 2008 EP, finally serve up their debut and it
is decent, but falls short of the buzz.
FINAL GRADE: B-
The Beach Boys – That’s Why God Made the Radio
The California legends return with Brian Wilson, it
celebrates the bands 29th release and 50th anniversary,
as well as the band’s first album of new material in 20 years. While nostalgia
is a great thing and gets fans excited for something new from these icons, age
has taken its toll and the Boys have not aged gracefully – from health problems
to basic course of nature, That’s Why God Made the Radio is the Beach Boys
signature sound but will fail to appeal to a new generation.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Alejandro Escovedo – Big Station
Springsteen’s favorite guitarist returns with a new album
and hears the Tex-Mex singer / guitarist serve up his typical dish of Latin fury
and flair on Big Station.
FINAL GRADE: B-
Metric – Synthetica
The Candian electronic act take a massive queue from their
2010 tourmates, Muse, and mimic the English band’s swelling stadium sound for
their latest. The only difference between previous Muse records and this
current Metric album is the singer’s gender.
FINAL GRADE: B-
SpaceGhostPurrp – Mysterious Phonk
The latest buzz emcee delivers his debut album and while the
beats are mysterious, dark and full of grime, the delivery and lyrical aspects
of this blogger favorite is as generic and as unoriginal as it comes.
FINAL GRADE: C
Quick News
After several years together, the band that we pinned to be "the next Muse," Pendulum, have called it quits.
After performing with him at Bonnarroo and working with him on his new record, Questlove has spoken to Rolling Stone about the direction of the long awaited new D'Angelo album. Questo said, "He is about to take a radical 180 turn with this record," says Questlove. "It's going to throw people off the same way that Prince's Dirty Mind threw his R&B fanbase off. In the past few years, he's discovered Bowie and Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pet Sounds, Captain Beefheart and Zappa." He also mentioned that D'Angelo also plays guitar on the new record and keyboards. No word yet as to when the new record will be released, but Questo said around August, but nothing is confirmed.
Against Me! front woman, the artist formerly known as Tommy Gabel and now known as Laura Jane Grace, spoke to MTV about her transgender transformation. Grace said, "When you're younger, you don't necessarily get it, but I just completely identified with Madonna. Watching Rosemary's Baby, and seeing Mia Farrow with a boy's haircut, was another moment I remember thinking, 'That's me, that's what I'm going to grow up to be, that's the kind of woman that I'll be.'" Grace, who broke the news to Rolling Stone in the Spring is speaking out again about the transformation and added, ""For my daughter, I'm just hoping that it doesn't affect her in any kind of negative way, as far as kids can be cruel to each other, you know." She also thanked her wife, Heather, for standing by her through this process.

Quick News
Contrary to reports over the weekend, The Rolling Stones are not confirmed to headline Glastonbury 2013 and the band deny any report that Glasto was to be their final gig.
To kick off London Men's Week, Burberry hosted a star studded party that featured Miles Kane as their special musical guest. As the party, the iconic fashion label launched their new London Collections: Men's line. Some of those in attendance were Elton John, Serg Pizarro of Kasabian, One Night Only.
Mika will release his new album, The Origin of Love this fall. The album will feature guest appearances of Nick Littlemore of Empire of the Sun and Pharell Williams.
Rob Harvey, formerly of The Music, has given some info on his new band The D-O-T, that features Mike Skinner, formerly of The Streets. Harvey told NME, "We'd both in bands for 10 years and obviously Mike was really successful with what he did and I had a little bit of success with The Music boys but we were just bored of doing the same thing. So we just wanted to do something different [after our bands had split]."

Harvey told NME, "We'd both in bands for 10 years and obviously Mike was really successful with what he did and I had a little bit of success with The Music boys but we were just bored of doing the same thing. EXCLUSIVE! Ken Regan INTV!
The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Madonna, Iggy Pop, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Run DMC, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Bruce Springsteen all of these musical titans have all been placed in front of the lens of rock and roll photographer Ken Regan. While those mentioned are enough to warrant an impressive resume, Regan has managed to not just capture these artists in concert or talking to the press but at their most intimate moments. From Dylans first encounter with Springsteen, to The Beatles arriving in the U.S. to the Rolling Stones having a joint before taking the stage, to Johnny Cash at his home, KISS in full make-up with their parents - moments like these are captured in Regan's book, All Access: The Rock 'N Roll Photography of Ken Regan. The book, released last fall, chronicles Regan's photographic career with stellar portraits of our favorite artists. We had the chance to speak to Regan about his career, book and life. Take a look at our interview below.
After all these years, what made you want to release a
book of your brilliant work now?
I felt the time was right. We sold 130 books at
the first book signing at the Morrison Hotel Gallery; I guess I was
right.
When you were photographing these iconic bands, did you
know they would go on to be legends? Was it the aura about them
that you knew they would explode?
Yes, it was their music, their personalities and
their commitment to being around for decades.
Who was your favorite to photograph?
The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
Who was the most difficult to capture?
At first, Bob Dylan.
Your photos are exactly what Keith Richards says in the introduction of the book, you “Capture the moment.” What
advice do you give to novice photographers on how to capture those
moments?
Either you have it or you don't; if you don't,
then teach.
Some of the most amazing moments in the history of
music you have taken. From Springsteen speaking with Bob Dylan to
Kiss with their parents to The Beatles getting off the Pan Am
flight. Which one of all the moments you have grabbed is your favorite and
why?
One of my favorite moments was being the only one
in the room when Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen met for the first
time.
Did you always want to be a rock and roll photographer?
How did you get involved with the acts?
I wanted to be a photographer who did everything;
I liked the diversification of doing music, sports, politics, etc. It was all thanks to Bill Graham, the rock
promoter.
Elvis, The Beatles, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Dylan.
The heroes of rock and roll, you have worked with them all. Do you
ever sit back and laugh all these years later and go “oh my God, this
was my life?”
Yes. Every time I look at the photos and hear
their music, I always have to pinch myself and say "Did I really
take those? Was I really there?"
What was it like shooting The Beatles? Having that
electricity and energy of the fans and buzz around them?
I was a very young photographer and they were the
first big band that I photographed. To see the outpour at their
arrival in New York, and the crowds around the hotel and the Ed Sullivan
Show was
unbelievable. Who knew that this was the beginning of a
major change in music.
What band or artist took you by the most surprise?
The Rolling Stones.
When you were shooting bands, the scene and sound was
very dangerous, much different than it was today. Are you
surprised that many of the musicians all did not end up a tragedy?
Yes, sadly we lost Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and
Jimi Hendrix; yet there were many other bands that did survive
the drugs and are still around today.
Do you miss the dangerous times of rock and roll?
Yes, it was a dangerous time, yet very exciting.
What band of today would you like to work with?
There are a couple; Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire and
Coldplay.
Many of the photographs in the book take place in New
York and the greater New York area. What is your favorite story that
you would like to share about shooting someone in the city?
I was assigned to do a cover story on Mick Jagger
for a British publication. At the time, Mick had a home on the
upper west side. I went over to his home and started photographing.
Mick was avid about working out, so I first began to photograph him
with his trainer, then running in Riverside Park. I then
photographed him walking through Central Park and then lunch at a Japanese
restaurant. Mick was then invited down to Andy Warhol's factory and I
had the chance to photograph the two of them together. The whole
day it was just Mick and I; no publicists, no agents or body guards.
Just a day in the life of Mick Jagger in New York City.
Radiohead's Toronto Tragedy
On what was to be a great day for fans and Radiohead themselves, as they were set to play a sold-out outdoor show at Downsville Park in Toronto, Canada, turned ugly as the stage in which the band were to play on, collapsed and killed one person and injured others. The band was not on stage at the time and happened hours before fans were allowed in the Park. The man who was killed, officials say was in his mid-30's and was trapped "under rubble" after the stage fell.
Toronto Police spokesman Tony Vella said crew were setting up the stage when it collapsed,"They were setting up when the top portion collapsed on top of them. Unfortunatly, four people were hurt. The remainder of the people, when they heard the stage coming down, ran from the area." USA Today reports that the tragedy happened around 4p.m., Radiohead were set to take the stage at 9:30 p.m. that night.
The band, like usual, were cryptic in canceling the show when they announced on their website that the gig would not happen. They said, "Due to unforeseen circumstances the radiohead show at downsview park tonight has been cancelled. Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue. Refunds will be made at point of purchase. Further information is to follow."
On Saturday, the band also marked a milestone in their career as their landmark 1996 record, OK Computer, turned 15. Now, with this tragedy, the anniversary of the record does not seem that important any longer.
UPDATE! Radiohead's Phil Selway has issued a statement via the band's website on the fatality in Toronto:
"We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott's family and all those close to him."

Great Soundtracks - Saturday Night Fever
Last month, as we bid farewell to Bee Gee Robin Gibb, what kept stirring up was, aside from the fact that he was a great singer, was that he and his brothers cemented their place in movie history with the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. The film, which was a testament to the 1970's New York disco era will forever be embedded in the brains and hearts of people around the world thanks to the soundtrack The Bee Gee's gave us.
The album, which is one of the most successful film soundtracks of all time going 15x's platinum, fueled disco around the world and its legacy generations later. While the Bee Gee's were the icons of the record, other artists like Kool and the Gang, The Trammps, KC and the Sunshine Band, MFSB, and others helped support the soundtracks commercial success and thanks to the success of the soundtrack it supported the success of those bands. While others appeared on the record, it will always be the Bee Gee's who will be remembered and as Robin Gibb's time has passed, his music and thanks to the continuing interest in this soundtrack will help his legacy live on.
Recommended Reading - U2 By U2
In 2006, the world's biggest blockbuster band decided to release their story, in their own words. Bono, Edge, Adam, and Larry put out U2 By U2, the oral history of the band and verbal account of the inner workings of the band that went from calling themselves Feedback, then The Hype, then U2. It is the story of four schoolboys winning Battle of the Band competitions to selling out stadiums around the world for more than 20 years.
The massive book, filled with rare and unseen photos was a bestseller when it was released and for many, the task of holding and reading it was more of a labor of love than a recreational activity. The book details nearly everything one would ever want to know about the band - from Bono's childhood to Edge taking hallucinogens to Adam's alcoholism to Larry's intolerance from the spotlight. From their relationships with each other to loved ones and who actually comes up with the bizarre concepts of their stage shows, U2 By U2, is much more than an autobiography, it is an encyclopedia that dates from 1978 to 2006. From politics to musical power, U2 explain how they got to be who they are today and all the bumps in the road along the way.
