The Horrors have confirmed to NME that they are nearly finished with their new album. Bassist Rhys Webb said, "We're right at the end of the recording process and ready to roll. We're recording 11 tracks. It's sounding very exciting." He adds: "I always think there is more in common with out albums than a lot of people say, but we always want to move forward as a band and make something better than what we have done before, and I think we have definitely been successful with that. Faris [Badwan, singer] is sounding fantastic too – I think it's the best he has ever sounded."

The Roots and Elvis Costello will release a collaborative album, Wise Up Ghost in September.

Following the success of his debut, Britrocker Jake Bugg has confirmed he is working with the legendary Rick Rubin for his sophomore album. The 19-year-old admitted that "I didn't know how well renowned he was when I went in there, so I kind of met the guy at face value and we got on really well," he told NME. No word yet on a release date for album number two.

Also speaking to NME, James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers has confirmed that his band are working on two albums. He said about the first record, "We've nearly finished mixing this one. It's much more acoustic based – I think there's one electric guitar on the entire record. But it's not Campfire Street Preachers, we're not banging boxes or anything. The lead track sounds like a miox between 'Rocks Off'-era Stones and Vegas-era Elvis." For the second album, he added, "It's a lot spikier and shinier. It's much more band-based, a tiny bit of krautrock influence. It's not like 'The Holy Bible' but there's a bit of the same intent and threat. Lyrically, it's got a European fascination. The landscape of Europe, the malaise of Europe, the malaise of us Brits not feeling part of it. We're not talking like the Tories, don't worry – there's not a song where we opt out of Europe. The lead track is me singing half in English and half in German."

The Jet Age of Tomorrow - the side band from Odd Future producers Matt Martians and Pyramid Vritra have released a free album called, Jellyfish Mentality. You can download it HERE.

Could a new Last Shadow Puppets album come out? That is what one half of the band, Miles Kane is telling NME. Kane, along with Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner formed the band in 2007 and released their slick debut in 2008. Kane now says, "I think the plan is to release something again, for sure...Since we did that [Alex Turner] has been busy and I had to find my feet with being on my own. If it comes after the end of this cycle and the end of his next record we'll probably be both ready and really up for it. It's just on the sidelines, there's nothing written for it."

As previous reported, Joey Bada$$ was releasing his new EP, Summer Knights next month. The EP has now turned into a full album arriving on June 12. Take a look at the cover below:

VINTAGE CLIP! Morrissey's 1st Solo Gig!

Earlier this month, Andy Rourke joined Johnny Marr of their former band The Smiths and performed their bands classic, "How Soon is Now?" for the first time in over 25 years together. While that was a monumental milestone, nearly 25 years ago, after The Smiths split, Rourke joined his singer Morrissey and drummer Mike Joyce for Moz's first solo performance on December 22, 1988. The concert took place at Wolverhampton Civic Hall and finally has been released on the internet. Take a look at the historic gig.

French neo-New Wave pop rockers Tahiti 80 have confirmed they will release a new album in early 2014.

Trent Reznor has confirmed that Nine Inch Nails will release a new album this year on the bands new home, Columbia Records. Taking to the bands site, Reznor said, "I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately. For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!" No date or title has been released.

New Wave legend Gary Newman will release his new album, Splinter in October.

Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green has confirmed he is currently working on a new solo album. No release date has been set.

The iconic Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy is eyeing an early 2014 release of his new solo album, Lion. The album is being produced by Youth.

The George Harrison Memorial Garden is now open to the public. The garden is at the Bhaktivedanta Manor Estate near Watford, England and is dedicated to the late Beatle who died in 2001. Harrison gave the site, formerly known as Piggots Manor, to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1973 after becoming a follower of the Hare Krishna religion. Following Harrison's death, a garden was created in his remembrance but was closed to the public.

According to the Associated Press, incarcerated Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina has been hospitalized as she completes the first week of a hunger strike. As previously reported, she is on a hunger strike because was refused permission to attend her own parole hearing.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Damon Albarn has confirmed that he is going to release a solo album, which was produced by XL Records owner Richard Russell, the two teamed up to produced Bobby Womack's 2012 record - The Bravest Man in the Universe. Albarn also said he plans to tour behind the album where he will play material from all of his bands including Blur and Gorillaz. Speaking of Blur, he gave a status on the bands alleged new album and said, "We've got a couple of occasions when we're stuck in the middle of nowhere. So we might make the record in a week. If we can, it would be nice."

Live Review - Gaslight Anthem / Hold Steady @ Stone Pony

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick-off to summer. The season where fun is made in the sun, sand gets stuck between our toes, Sangria and BBQ’s take center stage. Any other year, kicking off Memorial Day weekend in the Jersey Shore would be as traditional as the first grilled hot dog or burger, but over seven months after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast and took away most of the atmosphere of Jersey’s famous shoreline, the people of The Garden State are staging a comeback, the rebuilding of the landmarks and beaches that saw people from all over the world come and enjoy. In the town that gave birth to Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, Asbury Park was ready to show the world that the time to come back to the Shore is now. In a co-headlining bill featuring New Jersey’s The Gaslight Anthem and Brooklyn’s The Hold Steady, the venue that made Bruce, Southside Johnny, and so many others famous, The Stone Pony, welcomed the two bands to open up summer 2013.

While most of Asbury was still under construction from the storm and nearly a ghost town thanks in part to a lack of people renting summer shares and the cold, wet, windy weather, this summer got off to a slow and cold start, but that was not going to stop the sold out audience from packing the Pony’s Summer Stage.

Just after 8pm, The Hold Steady provided the soundtrack to the season opening with their furious anthem, “Constructive Summer,” as beers cracked open and some pounding double whiskey and coke with no ice, it was time to forget the effects of Sandy, the current weather and let loose. While the stage was open and no backdrop was behind the band, you could see the breaks in the clouds of sun and shadows altering the skyline to make for a beautiful ambience during the fury of rock and roll. In a tour-de-force set that included songs like “The Swish,” “Chips Ahoy!,” “Your Little Hoodrat Friend,” “Stuck Between Stations,” and even two brand new songs, The Hold Steady did little talking and captured the crowd with their music. As usual, singer Craig Finn’s guitar was used more as a prop than proper instrument, but his stage antics were not only comical as he laughed at his own monstrous lyrics and acted out every piece of dialogue he was singing like a thespian actor on Broadway. The band sounded as tight as ever, even as the rain came pouring down half way through their set and fans were getting rained on, The Hold Steady seemed unfazed and pushed through it all. It was the first time the band were playing the iconic venue and being a band that is constantly compared to Springsteen’s signature bar room sound, they were having the time of their lives, and being huge fans of The Boss himself, it seemed like it was a dream come true.

 After the crowd recharged after The Hold Steady’s hour long fuming set, it was time for the pride of New Jersey to come on give hope to a better season and tomorrow to their people. The Gaslight Anthem walked on stage to the sounds of fellow Jersey punks, The Bouncing Souls blaring through the Pony, grabbing their instruments and taking their places, the sounds of  “Oh ho! Whoa Ho!” surged through the crowd as the title track to last years album of the year, Handwritten, opened their set. From the get-go, this was the most passionate audience I have ever witnessed respond to this band, from the countless times I have covered them, this was something different, this was something stronger, this was a crowd beaming with pride for their hometown heroes. “It is summer everybody! Just a few months ago, Hurricane Sandy took away our shores; it took away our beaches, but we coming back. It is going to be better than ever,” said singer Brian Fallon to his people. His calming voice soothed the crowd that while many parts of the Shore are gone, it is time for new memories to be made, starting now. The bands songs are about the places and people that residents know so well, so hearing a guy from the same place talking about the same loves that those impacted by the storm, still, all these months later was reassuring. Even though it has been nearly a year since Handwritten was released, most of the bands 90-minute set came from their 2007 breakthrough, The ’59 Sound. The anthems Gaslight have written from ‘59 all take on new meaning now, songs like “Miles Davis and the Cool,” “Great Expectations,” “Meet Me By The Rivers Edge,” “Old White Lincoln,” “The Patient Ferris Wheel,” and the album and shows epic closer, “The Backseat,” all have new value thanks to being written about their home state and atmosphere that is now forever altered.

Tame Impala bassist Nick Allbrook has left the band to pursue other work. The band will continue on without him.

The Plaza Joe Strummer has opened in Granada, Spain, and honors the late Clash frontman. Strummer mentioned the city in the Clash track, "Spanish Bombs," and it was always one of the singers favorite destinations. The plaza was named after a Facebook petition was started by fans and City hall spokeswoman María José Anguita commented, "There was a popular petition for this to happen and the city hall accepted it."

Incarcerated Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina has gone on a hunger strike because she was refused the right to attend her own parole hearing and says her rights have been violated. Paul McCartney has come to her aid and written a letter to show support and said, "My personal belief is that further incarceration for Maria will be harmful for her and the situation as a whole, which, of course, is being watched by people all over the world. In the great tradition of fair-mindedness which the Russian people (many of whom are my friends) are famous for, I believe that you granting this request would send a very positive message to all the people who have followed this case."

Metallica have spoken to Billboard to give and update on their new record. Bassist Rob Trujillo said,"The work ethic is super, super strong, and that's what takes us longer than other bands, because we're sitting there and sometimes we're really analysing things. I mean, for every one lyric, [James] Hetfield has, like three lyric possibilities. But I can tell you this; the grooves and the riffs that are already on the radar are really, really awesome. We've still got more riffs to go through and jam out and throw into the process, but we're getting there, and we'll have something great, hopefully, in the next year."

As previously reported, former Queens of the Stone Age bassist and backing vocalist Nick Oliveri will appear on the bands forthcoming album ....Like Clockwork. Speaking to NME singer Josh Homme spoke about how the reunion came together, "Nick recorded his record [with his band Mondo Generator] at my studio and he was dropping some vinyl off and was like, 'Er, need background vocals?' and I was like, 'Yeah'. So he sang on 'If I Had A Tail'. Him and Mark Lanegan are going "Oooohohohoooo". It's just friends, you know. And that's good enough for me. It's what it is, not what it was. I know people get hung up on stuff but what am I supposed to do, go door to door and explain the situation?"

Live Review - Portugal. The Man @ Irving Plaza

With just less than a month to go before the release of their seventh album, Evil Friends, Portugal. The Man took to the stage to a sold-out Irving Plaza to take fans into their new realm of music and reflect on the songs that got them there. After a viewing of George Melies' A Trip to the Moon flickered on a screen covering the stage, the caravan of members to Portugal. The Man walked on stage to The Righteous Brothers classic, "Unchained Melody," and while the audience could not figure out whether to sing along or laugh to what was happening, they knew as soon as the chords to the opening number, "Purple Yellow Red and Blue," they had to begin jumping around. It was the first gig to launch their new and very long tour in support of the Danger Mouse produced Evil Friends, and the bands first proper U.S. gig since appearing at Coachella last month.

While the revolving door of musicians has always been a constant in this band, on Monday night their latest incarnation sounded just as tight as the did when we saw them last year in Brooklyn. Backed by an addition drummer, a small choir of women, and members of New York City sci-fi rock band, The Dig, this was easily the loudest, fullest, and most colorful sounding version this band has put out. At some points singer John Gourley was drowned in the sound everyone was putting on, but that did not seem to hinder the moment for him nor the crowd, simply because everyone in front of him were screaming the words back to him. Digging deep within their massive catalogue, they reworked some of their better know material like "People Say," which included parts of Weezer's "Say It Ain't So," and "Sleep Forever" which featured parts of The Beatles "Hey Jude." Yet, everyone was there to hear a taste of the new material, and they did not disappoint. New tracks like "Evil Friends," "Modern Jesus," and "Atomic Man," all sounded spellbinding and with Danger Mouse looking on from the VIP section, he smiled like a proud father looking at his kids mature and grow on stage. Seeing that Mouse had saw and heard these songs from their conception in the studio and infancy to now watching them being performed live for the first time, his job was clearly done. While the stage was filled with musicians and instruments, it was sparse in comparison to other set designs the band has had in the past, however, with a light display that could fill a stadium or arena, it was clear that Portugal. The Man had bigger ideas for the small club.

After an hour on stage, they retreated to the wings and as they walked back for an encore, bassist and founding member Zach Carothers thanked the crowd for coming out and said, "This was one of the first big places we ever played, back in 2006 I think, we toured with Circa Survive, they are a great band, and this was one of the biggest places we were in. The biggest shows we have ever done in America have all been in New York City, so thank you for supporting us." With that, the audience let their feelings heard and screamed to show their allegiance, while this band gets ready for the long tour ahead, this audience was the pep rally they needed to hit the road.

RIP Ray Manzarek

Sad news to report, legendary keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, Ray Manzarek has passed away at age 74 after a long battle with cancer.

According to The Doors Facebook page, Manzarek passed away today at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. At the time of his death, Ray was surrounded by his wife Dorothy and his brothers Rick and James. Guitarist Robby Kreiger said in a statement, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

When you hear Skye's voice on any of Morcheeba's songs or solo work, you know you are hearing something that seems to be not of this planet. Her voice is as powerful as an opera singer but is as tender as an eggshell. She mixes soul, rock, dub, and R&B over microbeats and has become the undisputed queen of trip-hop. After releasing her third solo album, Back To Now, last fall, she has been touring the world and also prepping with Morcheeba for a new album. We spoke to Skye about her music, Morcheeba, and her long career. Take a look.

What does the title of your latest record, Back To Now, signify?

The title 'Back To Now' is a line taken from a song 'Little Bit Lost' from the record. 'Trying to figure it out and find my way back to now'. It's about feeling centred or grounded, if you like. Letting go of the past and being ready to move forward. I'm in a good place right now, mentally, spiritually and the album title reflects that. 

With three solo records under your belt, how do you feel you have evolved as an artist?

Its been 6 years since my first solo record was released.  I have evolved and naturally, one changes as a person. I'm always learning something new and I feel like I'm getting better at songwriting. I've already started writing for my next solo album and I hope to always keep evolving. 

What did you do different on Back To Now that you had not done before?

In the past when writing songs, I would use a guitar or piano. This time around, I started with beats and loops. I knew I wanted the album to be more uptempo and have an electronic feel. Apart from 3 tracks, the whole record was written by myself and Steve Gordon (husband & writing partner). We had 10 finished songs that we then took to a producer.  That's another difference, the last two albums, each had two different producers. Back To Now was produce by just one person, Stephen Fitzmaurice, and in a shorter length of time. I think this record feels more cohesive. 

 Being that this is your third record, do you still get excited and / or nervous to make new music for yourself?

I'm every bit as enthusiastic aboutwriting and creating a new album as ever. I love being involved in the whole process. I have my own label 'Skyewards' and have complete creative control, right through to the art work on the CD and the music video. 

After rejoining Morcheeba in 2010, you are now back to being a solo artist full time or are you splitting your time among the projects?

Yep, I'm back in Morcheeba and we are in the process of writing a new album that will be out later this year. I will also continue to release solo albums. I'm in a very privileged  position that I can do both! 

You have collaborated with some amazing people, who would be your dream collaboration?

I'd love to work with Brian Eno and I'm a big fan of David Gilmore.  My dream collaboration would be to work with the music producer of the next Bond movie! I'd really love to sing a theme tune like Shirley Bassey. She's one of my favourite singers. 

One of your earliest influences was Sade, years later, people still compare your vocal abilities to hers. Is it flattering or is it lazy journalism to still be compared with her?

I've stopped reading interviews and reviews lately, so don't know if I'm still compared to Sade. Of course it's always amazing to be in the same breath as her! I've so much admiration for her. I saw her perform for the first time just a few years ago and was so blown away! 18 years, she had not performed in the UK! British Journalist said she couldn't sing and she walked away from it all. Middle finger to the lot of ya! 

Did you always want to be a singer or was it something you came into?

I've always sang since I was a child  but i was very shy. I it was my dream ti be a fashion designer. I studied at the London College of Fashion. When I met Paul and Ross & (Godfrey) they loved the sound  of my voice and I joined their dream. And now I'm 'living the dream' as they say. Plus, I make all of the dresses that I wear on stage. 

Of all the songs you have written or sang, which is your favorite and why?

Can I pick two? I love Bright Light from the current record. It's the last track on the album. It's base on the take of a friend who has fallen deep in to the darkness of depression. And I want to try and help them, to bring them back.  'I'll take my brightest light, I'll take my rope. I'll pull you out to love again' 

I also love 'Not Broken' from my 2nd album Keeping Secrets. (Released 2009). It's a very simple recording, voice and electric guitar, down tempo. Melancholic yet hopeful. Someone up loaded it on to YouTube and its gotten over a million hits without any push from a label or ad. People have found it and seem to really connect with it.

Kanye West's forthcoming sixth album will apparently be called Yeezus and will arrive on June 18.

At the annual KROQ Weenie Roast in California on Saturday night, Stone Temple Pilots made a surprise returned but without Scott Weiland. A fresh new face, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington was on hand to play a few STP classics as well as their new single with Bennington, "Out of Time." No word as to when an album will arrive, but to hear a clip from the song and download it, click HERE.

The vocals behind one of Daft Punk's most famous songs, "One More Time," has been silenced. Anthony Moore aka Romananthony, the influential house producer and vocalist passed away on May 7 at his home in Austin, Texas. His sister confirmed the news of his passing over the weekend. The cause of death has not been revealed.

Great Soundtrack - I'm Not There

In 2007, director Todd Haynes took Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Ben Whishaw, and Marcus Carl Franklin and transformed them into Bob Dylan for his film, I'm Not There. Each actor portrayed a different role or era, if you will, of Dylan's illustrious life. While each actor had their time on screen playing the music legend, many musicians had their time playing his songs for the films massive double soundtrack. Going through various phases of Dylan's career artists like Eddie Vedder, The Hold Steady, Karen O., Calexico, The Black Keys, Jeff Tweedy, The Swell Season, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Jim James, John Doe, and many others. The album only features Dylan once, with The Band performing "I'm Not There," from a 1967 live recording. The album, just like the film, pays homage to one of musics greatest living legends and icons.

Kanye West broke the mold again by premiering his new single "New Slaves," on Friday night by projecting his face across 66 different buildings around the world. Still no word as to when a new album will arrive.

Pogues guitarist Philip Cheveron has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. The guitarist to the Irish icons still plans to make music.

After the departure of bassist Eric Avery earlier this week, Nine Inch Nails have added former NIN bassist Robin Finck back to the band.

Speaking to Miami New Times, Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack has confirmed the band have recorded new material and could release and EP this summer. He said, ""We still need to do the vocals, but we've been working on six new songs. Depending on how the finished things pan out, we're either going to put out a single or an EP. I think in June or July. That's one of the songs that could potentially be on it."

As reported earlier, Sigur Ros will be featured on Sunday's episode of The Simpsons. Simpsons creator Matt Groening said, "I'm a longtime fan of Sigur Rós, and we're honored to bring their Icelandic, ambient moods to our goofy cartoon show." Take a look at the poster for the episode below"

The most talked about duo in modern music release their first album seven years and while the French DJ’s known for changing the EDM game return, their latest is a history of dance music. Daft Punk drop the hard beats and drum machines and pick up synths, guitars, bass, and go fro head banging dance music from outer space to funk and disco and give their audience a timeline of dance music through the years. Mixing genres within the genre, the robots rally up Julian Casabalancas, Pharell Williams, Giorgio Mordor, and others for a universal party.

The National – Trouble Will Find Me

The moody Brooklyn indie rockers return with their latest album, and their most dramatic to date. Trouble Will Find Me finds The National starker, heavier, and darker than ever before, singer Matt Berninger talks about relationships with women, his family (most notably his brother, who was the subject of the documentary Mistaken For Strangers), and what it is like to be the center of attention. The record also hears the band creating musical ebbs and flows within each song and within the tracklisting of the album.

R.A. The Rugged Man – Legends Never Die

Eight years after his debut, the long awaited second album from Long Island rapper R.A. The Rugged Man finally arrives and packs a punch that will knock anyone out. English disco singer and performer Little Boots comes back with her second record and brings classic dance dynamics as well as vigorous sounds that give way to something so fresh, it will rally in new fans and please old ones.

Punk inspired dance heroes, !!! return with a record that is a sure fire way to an instant party and a ton of fun to listen to. Thri!!!er hears a band that does not take themselves serious but takes their music very serious.

The Melvins – Everybody Loves Sausage

The iconic DIY band celebrates their 20^th anniversary with an album full of covers. Everybody Loves Sausage hears the band cover David Bowie, Queen, The Kinks, The Fugs, Roxy Music, The Jam, Venom, Throbbing Gristle, and more for a variety of interesting takes on pretty well known tunes.

FINAL GRADE: B-

Primal Scream – More Light

The psychedelic Britrock legends return with their 10^th studio album, and since losing Mani back to his first band, The Stone Roses, Primal Scream truck on with massive, swelling, melodies, hooks, and hypnotic sounds that really carry on their legacy. However, as grand as More Light tends to get, it also gets redundant and sometimes too big too many times for one album.

FINAL GRADE: B-

Guided By Voices – English Little League

The Ohio indie legends return with their 20^th album, and like their other efforts, this album sounds as classic as GBV will get.

Pretty and Nice – Golden Rules for Golden People

Taking pop punk inspiration and mixing it with electronic hooks, the Boston bands latest is a fun listen and solid effort that will have you moving and shaking.

Fitz and the Tantrums – More Than Just A Dream

The LA revivalists come back with their second album and still taking a retro cool sound to their music, they spike it up a notch with synth sounds that reach for a broader pop sound. While the new dynamic still has the charm of their fantastic debut, the subtle changes alter the band a bit, but still make for a solid listen.

FINAL GRADE: B-

Talib Kweli – Prisoner of Conscious

 The legendary Brooklyn emcee returns with his latest and while we can still learn from this icons words, some of them fall short. Much of Prisoner of Conscious sounds forced, and far too preachy to enjoy, even with production from RZA, Harry Fraud, Oh No and guests like Nelly, Miguel, Curren$y, Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius, Busta Rhymes and Ryan Leslie, Kweli may still have a lot to say, but he seems tired saying it.

FINAL GRADE: C+

Youngblood Hawke

The debut album from the LA buzz band has arrived, and much like their 2012 EP, it sounds as generic and unoriginal that it after one listen, it will be more than enough.

FINAL GRADE: C-

Rob Zombie - Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor

The Hellbilly returns with his fifth solo album, and proves that he refuses to change his sound, style and dynamic. Much like his last film, this album went unnoticed and much like his last film, it also is something you can skip.

FINAL GRADE: D
