The Artist is a fictional film about the fictional silent film star of the late 1920's to early 1930's, George Valentine, and how he becomes a relic in the age of cinema during the emergence of "talkies." While the film was made by a group of French filmmakers and actors, it's basic story touched a chord with everyone who laid eyes on this film. The Artist went on to win a slew of Academy Awards in 2012 including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture. While the Oscar race is officially on for the 2014 awards, it is fine to revisit a benchmark film that set the bar to what a great picture should be.
