Greg Ginn's latest incarnation of Black Flag just can't hold it together. Bassist David Klein, also of Screeching Weasel, has left Black Flag and apparently didn't tell anyone. In fact, he left the band in December. Klein took to Facebook on Tuesday to confirm the news, he said, "To avoid more PMs after today's news out of the Black Flag Official camp... I guess I should OFFICIALLY (puns!) say that I'm no longer playing with BF. I suppose the following post from last month wasn't exactly clear. Now go listen to They Stay Dead and Screeching Weasel. Fresh off a slew of Grammy wins, Pharell Williams is confirmed to play his Oscar nominated song, "Happy" from Despicable Me 2 at the Oscars on March 2.
Also, nominated at the Oscars are U2 who are nominated for their song, "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. U2 just had a Super Bowl ad where they advertised they were giving away their new single, "Invisible" for free on iTunes and for every download the song got, Bank of America was going to donate money to the Red campaign to fight AIDS and poverty. Well, the numbers are in, in 36 hours, thanks to everyones downloads, the band raised over $3 million for Red.
Nas is going to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his landmark debut, Illmatic in a big way. The Queens icon will be touring this year and will be performing Illamatic in full, he will also release the documentary Time Is Illmatic, which chronicles the making of the album, and will also re-release the album on vinyl and as a double CD. The re-release, called Illmatic XX will feature the remastered album and an album of bonus cuts, freestyles, demoes, and different mixes. That arrives in April.
