QUICK SPINS

Damon Albarn Everyday Robots
Damon Albarn is a musical Renaissance Man. From his Britpop fame with Blur to his hip-hop infused / experimental outfit – Gorillaz to managing to get legends like Tony Allen, Paul Simonon, and Danger Mouse for the underrated The Good, The Bad, and The Queen; to working with African musicians on Africa Express to curating two operas to producing Bobby Womack’s best album in decades, he now returns with an album of just his own thoughts, gatherings, and expressions. Everyday Robots is Albarn’s official solo debut, he linked up with XL Records main man, Richard Russell for a moody trip into the mind of a musical genius. Albarn is never afraid to express himself and push for a record that has basically no singles, but still manages to make you feel a moment in time. Much like one of his musical heroes, Brian Eno, who guests on the LP, Albarn pushes himself to find a sound that has not yet been created and mastered.
FINAL GRADE: A

The Afghan Whigs Do The Beast
It has been nearly 20 years since the last Whigs LP, but the underrated grunge gods are back with Do The Beast, and the best part about it – it doesn’t sound like an Afghan Whigs album! Not that we have anything against how the Whigs sounded in the 90’s, they were an underrated back and singer Greg Dulli is one of America’s most underrated songwriters, but the fans and fame they had seemed to fade with their hiatus. Now, recharged, regrouped, and rearranged, the Whigs brought themselves to modern times and instead of going back on the sound that gained them acclaim then, they realized it is not who they are now. Instead of making a safe comeback record, they go the distance and raise the bar to any band looking to do a reunion album – this is how you do it! One of the greatest comeback albums of all time and one of the year’s best albums so far.
FINAL GRADE: A

Curtis Harding Soul Power
Curtis Harding will be a superstar, make my words, a fucking superstar. The rising Michigan R&B artist combines the soul of Marvin Gaye, the garage rock licks of The Black Keys, the lyrical power of Bobby Womack, and the creative musical designs of Danger Mouse. Harding, whose debut, Soul Power, is a magnificent and near perfect venture into a throwback sound with a new Millennium twist. Easily, the best debut of the year, so far.
FINAL GRADE: A

OFF!Wasted Years
The hardcore supergroup return with their sophomore LP and like their first four EP’s and debut, they comeback with the sound we love and appreciate – sort, fast, loud, and raw.
FINAL GRADE: A-

Cloud Nothings Here and Nowhere Else
The Ohio garage rockers return with their sophomore album, and pick up right where 2012’s fantastic Attack on Memory left off. It still rages and drives us into the fuzzy atmosphere of rock and roll.
FINAL GRADE: A-

RatkingSo It Goes
One of the most exciting new hip-hop groups to emerge from New York City in years arrives with their pulverizing and shocking debut. Ratking hail from Manhattan and have been emerging as a new voice in Big Apple rap since 2010. Now, with their debut, So It Goes, Ratking provide lyrical blows to the hipsters, the NYU crowd, and anyone who thinks they are the King of New York. Plus, thanks to chaotic and ravaging production and a guest appearance from King Krule, it displays how diverse and exciting this group really is.
FINAL GRADE: A-

Until the Ribbon BreaksThe Other Ones EP
The British soul singer returns with another EP full of tracks that tease us with his magnificent voice, lyrical talent, pure emotion and only makes us beg for his long awaited full length to come sooner rather than later.
FINAL GRADE: B+

Blood Red Shoes
The UK duo return with their fourth album and bring forth some of their most thrashing and vibrant riffs since their fantastic 2008 debut. Box of Secrets.  The record which was written, recorded, and produced entirely by the two members of the band and was recorded over six months in Berlin to capture a new energy, sound, and inspiration. Four albums in, and they still remain to be one of the most exciting bands out there today.
FINAL GRADE: B+

Secret SistersPut Your Needle Down
The Southern sorority return with their T-Bone Burnett produced sophomore album and showcase their vulnerability, creativity, and beautiful songwriting again with their latest album. They are a country group that is far too traditional and far too creative for the modern bullshit country pop that is on radio and award shows. The Secret Sisters are one of the few country acts out there today that would make Johnny and June Carter Cash proud.
FINAL GRADE: B+

Anthony Valadez In Search Of
Taking old school jazz and blues riffs and sounds and mixing it with ambient and electronic hooks, Anthony Valadez has crafted one of the most refreshing, fun, vibrant, and electic albums of the year.
FINAL GRADE: B+

DeathIII
The third album of unreleased material from the Detroit protopunks arrives with the most wild fanfare thanks to their 2013 documentary – A Band Called Death. After touring for most of 2013 and most of this year, Death now have the following the deserve and III will be what was left from their vault.
FINAL GRADE: B

YG – My Krazy Life
Since Kendrick Lamar put Compton back on the musical map, YG is one of the first to come through that door that Kendrick opened to make a name for himself. My Krazy Life is his debut and highlights what is making West Coast hip-hop so much fun again.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Broken Ankles
The debut EP from Girl Talk and Freeway highlights two of Pennsylvania’s big talents together under one album. Broken Ankles is a chaotic hip-hop creation that features Girl Talk’s brilliant production and Freeway’s one of a kind lyrical delivery.
FINAL GRADE: B-

I Am The Avalanche Wolverines
The Brooklyn punks return with one of their fiercest albums to date. While it has only been three years since Avalanche records, instead of the six between their debut and sophomore LP, Wolverines strikes hard and wild to make us remember why they caught out attention a decade ago.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Wolfmother New Crown
Pulling a Beyonce, Australian rockers Wolfmother returned with their third album in a surprise fashion by releasing it on Bandcamp to mark their comeback. What was supposed to be the sophomore album from singer Andrew Stockdale transformed into him getting his old band back together for a stoner / blues / classic rock extravaganza.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Ingrid MichaelsonLights Out
The sixth album from Staten Island’s reigning singer / songwriter is one of her strongest to date. Lights Out hears Michaelson craft her traditional heartfelt pop song but also goes and packs a punch with her emotional release.
FINAL GRADE: B-

Madlib & Freddie GibbsPinata
The collaboration between Madlib’s production and Gibbs’ flow and cadence, brings forth Pinata. This hip-hop team is creative and wild, but sometimes one outshines the other. Madlib’s flawless production may be too perfect sometimes for Gibbs to rhyme over, even with guests like Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Scarface, BJ the Chicago Kid, Ab-Soul, Casey Veggies, Meechy Darko, Mac Miller, Pinata is decent but doesn’t hit the bulls eye.
FINAL GRADE: C+

Damon Albarn Sings "Parklife" in Pub

Never one to deny trying new things, Damon Albarn surprised pub goers in London on Friday evening with a surprise performance of his band Blur's hit, "Parklife" as he played it with a local band. Take a look!

Quick News

The Libertines have confirmed they are reuniting to perform a special outdoor show in London on July 5. This news confirms Carl Barat's message to fans last week when he said, "Keep July 5 open."

Sam Endicott of The Bravery gave fans a long overdue update on the band and their indefinite hiatus. In a email to fans, he wrote, "This letter has been a long time coming. Honestly I think I've been putting it off because it's a difficult, bittersweet thing to write but now I find myself in a place where, although it's difficult to discuss the past, I'm excited to discuss the present. To answer your many queries, the band has not "broken up," nothing so dramatic as that. We just aren't doing anything together and don't have any plans to for the foreseeable future. There's been no "falling out," no bad blood, we all just have different interests now and are involved in our own projects. The Bravery is a beautiful thing that we are all immensely proud of, but after many years it is just not where our passions lie anymore and continuing simply out of habit or momentum would be unfair to our audience and ourselves. Will we get together again at some point? I don't know the answer to that, it's unclear, but for now we have no plans to." He then gave an update as to what each band member is doing and that all is alright in their own lives.

Tiesto will release his new album, A Town Called Paradise, in June.

Duran Duran have confirmed in a statement on their website that they are working with John Fruscante on their upcoming album. The New Wave vets wrote, "We were holding this exciting news because we were hoping to give you full details when we announced, but as word has leaked out, catching us rather off guard, we wanted to confirm… yes it’s true, the extraordinarily talented John Frusciante has indeed been doing some work from his home base in California on our new album. The tracks have been going back and forth via the internet, and we are thrilled with the results. We are all such big fans of John’s work and are honoured to have him adding his magic to the record! There are no current plans for John to tour with us, but his guitars sound incredible on the tracks."

Spiritualized will reissue their 1993 live album, Fucked Up Inside, on 180-gram vinyl in June.

Next month, Michael Jackson's estate will release his posthumous album, Xscape. Take a look at the tracklisting below:
01. Love Never Felt So Good

03. Loving You
04. A Place with No Name

Live Review: Zucchero @ The Theater at MSG

Zucchero may not be a household name in the United States, but outside of these boarders, he is one of the world's most popular musicians and has been for the last four decades. The Italian blues singer and guitarist has sold out arenas all over the world and over 40 million records, yet, he is still, surprisingly,  an unknown here. Zucchero could be considered Italy's Santana, a phenomenal guitarist and songwriter, but also, someone with a unique voice. He has currently been on tour in the U.S. supporting his latest record, La SesiĂ³n Cubana, a record of Cuban influence and even hears him sing in both Spanish and Italian, had his landmark concert on Wednesday night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Zucchero has worked with everyone from Ray Charles to Miles Davis to Bono, Eric Clapton, Pavarotti, B.B. King, Brian Wilson, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Beck and a slew of others, he is a musicians musician. Now, for his special New York City gig, he brought out his long contact list that included Italian rapper Jovanotti, Sting, Sam Moore, Chris Botti, Italian singer Elisa, Mexican singer Fher, and many more. In a gig that was supposed to include Nile Rodgers and Dolores O'Riordan, who seemed to have cancelled before the gig, there was still no shortage of star power. The Theater at Madison Square Garden felt like a cross between United Nations and an audience at a World Cup match. While a majority of the intimate room were filled with people of Italian heritage, including myself, it was also filled with many people from Central and South America, various parts of Europe, and of course, North America. It was diversity at its finest but also showcasing that music is our universal language and Zucchero was the maestro of our native tongue.

Opening the show promptly 8p.m. with just a spotlight shining on him, Zucchero was alone on stage with just his guitar performing "Il Suono Della Domenica" and "Alla Fine" before his 11-piece band kicked in and brought the room to life. In a three hour set that included his massive Italian hits, English songs, and Latin tracks, Zucchero took us around the world without leaving the room. As he brought out guests like Irene, Elisa, Fiorella Mannola, the party was just getting started. Once Fher arrived, it took the show to a new level. Bringing in a much more harder rock with Spanish flair sound to the show, everyone was on their feet. As Fher left the stage, a gospel choir entered to sing backing vocals for most of the evening. Then, Jovanotti arrived to perform his duet "Il  Mare," which also included snippets of his song, "New York For Life." As Jovanotti brought a new attitude to the room, Chris Botti arrived to showcase his trumpeting skills. With all of these guests, it would seem that Zucchero would be upstaged by his own friends, however, it was the contrary. He seemed honored and more energized than what would be a regular gig. As Zucchero's international friends showcased why New York is America's biggest melting pot, the legendary Sam Moore of Sam & Dave arrived to sing "You Are So Beautiful" and "Soul Man." As Moore tried to speak Italian with Zucchero, the two reminisced about their time working with Ray Charles which brought the night to a touching moment. After Moore left the stage, Zucchero and his band took over again until the end of their first set, which featured Jovanotti arrive again to mash-up Zucchero's "Diavolo In Me," Chic's "Good Times" and Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." After a brief break, Zucchero returned to the stage with his good friend, Sting, who came on to sing his duet, "Muoio Per Te" and his classic Police track, "Every Breath You Take." As the night's biggest singer may have gotten the loudest cheers, it was still Zucchero's night and the reason we all came together under one sound.

Great Soundtrack: 'Hanna'

The Chemical Brothers have been EDM and techno pioneers and legends since their heyday in the mid-90's yet, it took until 2011 for someone like director Joe Wright to have them score a film. The film would eventually be the girl-power badass action thriller, Hanna. The score, like it's blockbuster cast featuring Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, packs a significant punch that unleashes a digital sound score over some fantastic action-storytelling. With the English DJ duo counting this soundtrack as one of their own releases like Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender, it makes us wonder, why hasn't Chemical Brothers scored more films since? And, since it is a record that stands on it's own, it is one of the duo's best work in years.

Recommended Reading: Tearing Down The Wall of Sound

Phil Spector will probably go down in history as the greatest music producer of all time. Working with everyone from The Crystals to The Ronettes to The Beatles to The Ramones. Spector and his famous "Wall of Sound" have become synonymous with great music.  By 18, he had a No. 1 hit and a bright future, then over the years his antics and bizarre behavior began to outshine his fame until 2003, when he hit the tabloids as the man who killed an unknown actress in his home. Spector's life is the stuff of legends and the script that any award winning writer wishes they penned. In 2008, author Mick Brown beat everyone to the punch and released Tearing Down the Wall of Sound: The Rise and Fall of Phil Spector.

Brown's book chronicles Spector's life as a young New York mastermind who found a way to capitalize on pop music and make a sound that he wanted to hear. From crafting his in demand sound and style, Spector changed pop music forever. Yet, with every genius comes a dark side and Brown explores that deeply in his book. If you are a fan of Spector's work or of music in general, this is a must read.

RZA said, "The album is slated to come out in July," he said. "If we don't come to terms [with Raekwon], I think, within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never sees the light of day. And that's a very strong potential. I would not want to put out a Wu-Tang album without every live member available," he said. "At the same time, I don't want the fans not to have this incredible music that we've been workin' on for the last year. So that's gonna be a tough decision, but we've got about 30 days to make that decision and come to that conclusion."

Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold took to Facebook to give fans an update as to what the band has been doing since they have been on hiatus. He wrote, "For anyone who's curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update - been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and enrolled at Columbia, and I've mostly been doing that, but I'm working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it's down the line. Hope all is well out there."

EXCLUSIVE! GOLDHOUSE INTV!

Chicago producer and beatmaker GOLDHOUSE has been making a name for himself in the Windy City, now, it is his turn to do the same on a national and global scale. With the release of his major label debut EP, Back to Life, Goldhouse shows that the spirit of late Chicago DJ Frankie Knuckles is alive and well in the rising artist. Thanks to the release of his latest EP, Goldhouse is ready to shine on dancefloors and speakers in clubs around the globe. We caught up with the man himself to find out more of the mystery surrounding his music, persona, and beats. Take a look at our interview with Goldhouse below:

In your bio, you claim that GOLDHOUSE is not a person or band, but a way of life. What is the GOLDHOUSE way of life?

GOLDHOUSE is about having a great time and enjoying life.  It’s about not caring what other people think and being true to you.

Hailing from Chicago and having some house music as an influence, were you ever influenced by late Chicago DJ Frankie Knuckles who just recently passed away?

Indirectly, but absolutely.  The massive impact he had on house and dance music was astounding.  Even though I was never particularly familiar with all his music, I know so many of the artists I grew up idolizing were influenced by him immensely.

How has Chicago influenced you as a person and as an artist?

Chicago is synonymous with a blue collar work ethic.  If you want something, you spend your time working harder than anyone else to get it.  I try and approach everything, including music, using that philosophy,

Having such a fun and creative pop sound, who are some of your influences?

I always try and keep myself updated with everything being released in the Top 40 and the dance world, but ultimately most of my biggest influences are from 20+ years ago.  I grew up listening to Prince, Madonna, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, and so many others.  When I look for inspiration I find myself turning back the clock.

You titled your latest release, ‘Back to Life,’ what does that signify?

“Back to Life” was the first EP I 100% produced since I first started putting out music.  I felt with this EP that I finally had found my true identity, and being in complete control of it gave me a new spark.

You have been making music your whole life, what other genres have you dabbled into? Will we ever hear those sounds on your future releases?

I grew up playing anything from classical to jazz to punk to pop.  I think its really only a matter of time before you hear those influences come to life even more than they already have.

With three EP’s under your belt, when can we expect your debut?

Right now I’m writing like crazy, which I love.  Ultimately it’ll come down to whenever I have a group of 10+ songs that can all stand on their own.  I always want to be 110% pumped on every song I put out.  I’m really excited about the handful of songs I have so far, so hopefully soon.

When the debut comes out, what can fans expect from it and what will they be surprised by?

The variation of songs.  I’m trying to write great songs, not just songs that conform to a specific mold.  I want each song to be unique in its own way, and I want an album as a whole that is interesting all throughout.  I’m trying to mix genres and sounds all while keeping the GOLDHOUSE sound.

You are a self taught producer and have produced all of your work at this point, are you doing the same for your debut?

I definitely want to produce most of the debut, but I think it’d be great to collaborate with some other producers as well.  Sometimes getting an outside perspective and a fresh set of ears can do wonders for a track.

If you could work with a producer, who would it be?

That's one of the toughest questions I get asked. There's no one single producer I want to work with more than others, because I admire so many for different reasons.  It's a lame answer I realize, but it's the truth!

How would you describe GOLDHOUSE to someone who has never heard of you before?

I'd describe it as fun music. Music you can dance and feel good to. Modern production with pop throwback melodies.

Where does GOLDHOUSE go from here?

Onwards and upwards I hope! A lot of writing and producing, remixing, and live shows. I'm excited to hopefully release some new music soon, and then we'll see where the wind takes me!

Live Review: Chuck Ragan / The White Buffalo @ Irving Plaza

He thanked his manager, he thanked his roadies, he thanked his backing band, he thanked the people working at Irving Plaza, and he even thanked his bus driver.  He did this all before he introduced himself, "Good evening everybody, my name is Chuck Ragan. Thank you for being here." Those gestures all represent the type of guy that Ragan is, he puts others ahead of himself and wears it all on his sleeve like a badge of honor. Ragan, who is on a co-headlining tour with The White Buffalo rolled through New York City's Irving Plaza on Friday night to a near sold-out crowd. Ragan is on the road promoting his fantastic new album, 'Til Midnight, and brought his backing band, The Camaraderie Collective along with him.

Ragan, like most of his contemporaries is a singer/songwriter that knows how to work a room, part of it is his fantastic arsenal of songs, but another part of it is his magnetic personality. He is a working man, if you follow him on social media you will see him building something, fishing, knocking things down, he never stops. He is a real life Ron Swanson, but with a genuine personality that shines through every time he speaks into a microphone. Going through his songs, you could feel the emotion of the crowd singing along and going through the motions of hanging off each note as if it is the last thing they will ever hear. It is a testament to the music made by a guy who has built a foundation and career around doing things the way he see's fit. For the 80 minutes he was on stage, the gravely voice of Hot Water Music that we grew up loving was transformed into a tender roar of emotion that required full fan participation.

Before Ragan was on stage, Southern California's The White Buffalo went on stage to bring their baritone Americana sound to life in New York. Buffalo main man, Jake Smith's voice is a cross between Eddie Vedder and Waylon Jennings with his own added flair. While, this was not an opening slot, it was a co-headling joint, the fact that two like minded artists were on the same bill together made it a perfect night of music and collective camaraderie that showcases this is a tour you do not want to miss.

Quick News

This year's Made in America Festival will take place in both Philadelphia and Los Angeles simultaneously with Jay Z headlining both cities. The rest of the line-up has yet to be announced.

To celebrate the release of their recent mixtape, hip-hop legends De La Soul will release 100 vinyl copies of Smell the Da.I.S.Y in record stores around America, Canada, and the UK. The instrumental only album also features an unreleased J. Dilla beat. The hip-hop trio emailed fans to give them hints as to what stores they can pick up the LP. The record is a tribute to Dilla, who died in 2006.

Black Flag and FLAG have settled their trademark lawsuit that Black Flag guitarist and SST Records founder Greg Ginn filed against his former bandmates who are in FLAG, along with Steven Egerton of ALL / Descendants who is playing Ginn's parts in FLAG. Last year, Ginn claimed that FLAG's logo and name where his under his SST label. Now, a settlement has been reached. "FLAG gets to be FLAG, and Black Flag as it is presently known continues to be Black Flag," Evan Cohen, the attorney for Greg Ginn, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In a new interview with Kerrang, producer Butch Vig has confirmed that Foo Fighters are "almost halfway done" with their new album. Vig said, "We've been recording at some different locations, but we're almost halfway done with the recording and it's going well. It sounds different — we've thrown a few things into the mix, in the recording process, that are going to give the record a different sound and a different feel. It's been a challenge, but it's also been exciting."

Speaking of Dave Grohl, he and Krist Novoselic recently spoke to Rolling Stone following their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction with Nirvana and talked about how they came to pick who played with them on stage. Grohl said, "'Don't even ask anyone else. If we can fill the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance with these incredible women singing Nirvana songs, then we'll have achieved our own revolution.' It also added a whole other dimension to the show. It added substance and depth, so it didn't turn into a eulogy. It was more about the future. Joan Jett, who formed the Runaways, changed rock & roll for women," says Grohl. "Kim Gordon, from Sonic Youth, was this beacon of light in the predominantly macho, male underground punk rock scene. St. Vincent is a wicked musician that's pushing boundaries now. And Lorde has an incredible future ahead of her as a writer, performer and vocalist." Then asked about what it was like to play together again, Novoselic said, "The first time we played together, it was like seeing a ghost," he says. "The second time, it was a little more reserved. And the last time we played it was like that fucking Demi Moore/Patrick Swayze pottery wheel scene from Ghost. We usually got the song by the third take. It started to sound like Nirvana. Our road crew and some friends were in the room when we launched into 'Scentless Apprentice' for the first time. There were jaws on the floor."

The troubles behind Wu-Tang Clan are heating up. Speaking to Vlad TV RZA spoke about how he and Raekwon are not on speaking terms and how he is absent from the new Wu album.  RZA said, ""I haven’t had a chance to really talk to him about why not... But I would say that maybe creatively we on different paths. I'm creatively different than I was in the ‘90s." Now, speaking to Rolling Stone, Raekwon is firing back saying, "I don’t know why he said he didn’t speak to me, because he did speak to me. We spoke about two weeks ago. It was me, him, his brother and business partner Devine and we talked about why I’m not there right now. They know where I’m at and at the end of the day, him saying he didn’t speak to me is a bold-faced lie." He then said he was "one strike" from the Wu, saying, "It ain't the fact that I don't want to be there. Because of course I want to be there. But if we're there, we gotta do the best everything. We gotta work 10 times harder, because that's what I'm signing in for."

Live Review: Jonah's onelinedrawing @ Mercury Lounge

For California based singer/songwriter Jonah Matranga, to be back on the East Coast on the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings -- Boston is where is originally from, and on the year anniversary of the passing of his close friend, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, must have been a difficult experience. Matranga, who is back to using his onelinedrawing moniker, was in town to promote his latest album, Me And You Are Two and played before a packed Mercury Lounge. It was an early set, but it is for good reason, the performance seemed to be as cathartic to Matranga as it was for his fans. What goes without saying in that emotional gathering and experience is what all of his shows are like, this seemed to have been surprisingly but also, unsurprisingly amplified given the week he is in town.

Take A  Look At Our Recent Interview With Jonah Matranga

While Matranga never mentioned any of the events, he does where his heart on his sleeve and watching and knowing him for a decade or so now, you know things where weighing on his mind. Yet, that is what makes his concerts one of the greatest live experiences you will ever witness. Aside from his lyrical brilliants, funny banter, amazing storytelling, it is about getting lost in his set. He gets lost just as much in his audience as they do in him. It is just him on stage with his guitar, toy R2D2 figure, and a iPod of pre-pregramed beats. It is a vulnerable scenario for any musician, but that is what he feeds on and what the crowd comes to see. It is the most unique, organic, and beautiful concerts you will ever attend. It is as real as it gets. Opening with a handful of tracks off his latest record, he then began taking requests from the crowd. Many were screaming for songs from his previous bands -- Far, New End Original, Gratitude, and he obliged and also gave a new take on some of his most well known numbers. Songs like "Man Overboard," "A Ghost," "Nestle," "Lukewarm," "Bury White," "We Had a Deal," his magnificent cover of Jawbox's "Savory," and even a mash-up of "Stay" and "This is the Part." I spoke to him after the show where he said, "That was cool! I had never done that before and it came out great!" Indeed it did. After an hour on stage, it was time for him to go and for us to take the memories of another memorable night away with us.

EXCLUSIVE! Color Film INTV!

Daryl Palumbo is a name that is synonymous with multitasking. From fronting bands like Glassjaw, Head Automatica, working as a producer, Palumbo's current project finds him working with former Men, Women, and Children member Richard Penzone on their latest band, Color Film. The band, who have currently an EP and a handful of tracks online have been on tour since the fall and are working on their debut. The band's sound is a cross between 80's new wave and house music, combined with Penzone's musicianship and Palumbo's lyrics, Color Film are one of the most unique bands out there today. We spoke to Palumbo about Color Film, their touring schedule and style. Take a look at our interview below:

This band formed two years ago and created a buzz because of who the members of the band were. Do you think that having members of popular bands is a gift and curse when crafting a new project?

D: It can definitely be both a gift and a curse when being a member of other projects and embarking on a new project. It’s sometimes hard as a listener to shake certain associations you may have with a particular artist and their “Sound”. It doesn’t particularly bother me personally, but it can occasionally make it harder to get your creative point across to more narrow minded listeners.

Color Film has an amazing new wave style and vibe, who were some of the bands of the 80’s era that inspired this project?

D: I’m a big fan of so many late 70’s - mid 80’s bands that might fall into the description you just gave, though to just name a few (That may not share much of a common thread when you really break it down), I enjoy the more straight forward groups like Squeeze, Haircut 100, XTC, Japan, and Oingo Boingo. Zappa’s work in that era is huge for me, as are the more far out groups like Shriekback, The Pop Group & Au Pairs.

How did you and Richard link-up and form this project?

D: Richard has been a dear friend of mine for quite some time. Aside from us both being from the same area on Long Island, he and his brother played in Men Women & Children whom I had toured with alot. Early on we realized that we were endlessly obsessed with the same old records and were drawn to working on music together. Richard’s talent is monstrous and anyone who writes any kind of music whatsoever would be lucky to play with him.

Color Film is being compared to Head Automatica in terms of style and sound, how do you respond to those claims?

D: Well, I wouldn’t say it sounds like it at all, however from a listener standpoint, I can see the electronic or post punk parallels being drawn. Aesthetically, it’s completely different and sound-wise the goal is completely different as well. There is a bit of the disco element in Color Film’s music, though that element comes from a far different place with this band. There is also slim to no rock n’ roll happening in Color Film.

Being in so many bands, is it hard to focus on one particular project and dedicate the time you want to it?

D: Not particularly. Luckily the things I’m a part of have plenty of wiggle room calendar-wise, and don’t manage to step on each other's toes.

The band’s live shows are backed by some Glassjaw members, Manny Carrero and Durijah Lang, what is it like bringing in members of one band to play with another? Will Justin ever be apart of Color Film?

D: Manny and Durijah had filled in for our usual bass player and drummer, Steven Heet and his brother Brett Heet. In terms of the acclimation of those two Glassjaw members into Color Film for those shows, it went as smoothly as it could possibly have gone. They are incredible players who can easily slip into any feel you could throw at them.

I don’t think Justin is trying to join Color Film anytime soon, but he’s always welcome to create with me.

With just an EP and a few songs out, when will fans get a Color Film debut?

D: We completed our LP, “Living Arrangements” a while ago, but are planning on getting out a little more material prior to releasing it. Making sure it’s found the right home is also super important to us. In the meantime, the video for the song “Until You Turn Blue” is coming out in the next few weeks. That was the E.P. we released with our friend Nick Hook on his label, Calm & Collect.

Color Film still remains a mystery to most fans, what would be one thing you could tell us that not many people would know about the band?

D: We don’t have much of a sense of direction. Musically I guess, but more so in everyday life when getting around.

You recently supported ††† (Crosses) at their New York City concerts, what was that experience like?

D: Playing with Crosses was a  great time. They’re wonderful guys and treated us kindly. Despite how awful the Hoth-like weather conditions were, the shows were packed and the reception we received was great. We were flattered that they asked us in the first place.
