New Order have officially signed with Mute Records, the home of Depeche Mode, Erasure, and M83. The band are prepping a new album and said in a press release, "New Order are delighted to be signing to Mute. We couldn't imagine a better place to be than working with Daniel Miller and his team. Mute has a superb roster of artists and a history that complements our own. In many ways joining the label feels like we are coming home, returning to our independent roots."No word yet as to when the record will arrive.
Taking to social media, Everything Everything have confirmed they are working on a new album, which will arrive next year.
Speaking to NME, Radiohead's Phil Selway discussed the band returning to the studio. He said, "We are starting again in about a month's time. We've decided that now feels right to start making music and we've got the first week booked in together so we'll see how it goes." The band's last release was 2011's The King of Limbs.
Also speaking to NME was Interpol, who ahead of the release of their new album El Pintor, they said they have not spoke to former bassist Carlos D. since he left the band in 2010 after recording their last self-titled record. Drummer Sam Forgarino said, "If I were 10 years younger, maybe I’d go and snoop around, check out what he’s up to, but no, I’m pretty in and out there nowadays. What Carlos brought to the band became a huge part of the sound. You couldn’t take it away. Paul had a lot of respect for that. He knew whatever he did had to respect that. It couldn’t be a template thing.”
Wilco will be celebrating their 20th anniversary together this year and will be releasing their first "Greatest Hits" collection and rarities box set this fall.
Mary J. Blige is working with Disclosure and Sam Smith for her new album, The London Sessions. Speaking to The Observer, Blige said, "The sound in London at the moment is house music. That is what the majority of people are producing their songs like. But the ones that get truly successful are the ones using proper songwriting. And that is exactly what we're trying to do, along with a few other people. But that applies to any genre, not just dance music. You could take the songs off Sam Smith's album, produce them in a completely different way and they would still be a huge success – you could produce them like acid jazz and I still feel like they'd get somewhere." The album is expected to arrive next year.
