Movie of the Month: Tiner Tailor Soldier Spy

In a day and age when we want things done quick and at the speed of sound came a film that was not only a slow burn but took its time to evolve its story and characters. The 2011 Cold War spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was based off the 70's British mini-series of the same name and starred Gary Oldman who lead an all-star cast of Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Toby Jones. Oldman portrayed former MI6 spy and agent, George Smiley, who was called out of retirement following the murder of an active agent in Hungary. The film, which is not only superbly shot and acted, is a throwback to the spy thrillers of yesteryear. Unlike James Bond or Ethan Hunt, these spys are not flashy or glamorous, they are masters of their craft trying to crack the case without blowing their cover. While the summer is about high explosive, big budget films, here is one to take in that will stay with you long after you watch it.
