In the wake of Prince's death, his former backing band The Revolution have announced they will reunite for a series of concerts this year.
Deftones' Chino Moreno, Bad Brains guitarist Dr. Know, Medeski, Martin and Wood's John Medeski, Cro-Mags drummer Mackie Jayson, and Crosses bassist Chuck Doom have formed a band called Saudade. The band have released a debut single via BitTorrent. No word on when or if a debut album will arrive.
Noel Gallagher has told The Daily Star that he would welcome working with Damon Albarn on the forthcoming Gorillaz album. He said: "He’s making a new Gorillaz album and he’s got my number, so he’s only got to ask. There is talk of doing something but I’m not sure what it is." He then added: "I mean trying to get the two of us in the same room would be a fuckiing miracle. But I’m certainly open to the idea, for sure."

Live Review: Bruce Springsteen @ Barclays Center
Every concert Bruce Springsteen puts on is a special occasion. It is one of the reasons why he is The Boss.
However, on Saturday night inside Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, he even outdid
himself. He showed that age was not a factor for his tour-de-force
three-and-a-half hour performance that will go down in the history books for
Bruce fans.
As the stark stage was painted from the rays of purple
lights, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band came out on stage to thunderous
applause. Without any introduction, opening act or greeting, they took their
places and broke out into a very special version of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” It
was their first concert since the passing of Prince on Thursday. It was also the first time the band has ever
covered the song live.
As the song ended and the lights slowly began to shift
colors, each member of the band, including Springsteen, was wearing a purple
item in tribute to the late singer.

It was then into business as usual for the group. The current
tour, which began in January, is celebrating the 35th anniversary of
his landmark album, The River. Saturday night’s gig was the second to last on
his four-month trek across North America. The tour will end on Monday in
Brooklyn before they head to Europe for the summer.
After performing “Meet Me in the City,” in front of the
sold-out crowd that included famous faces like Stephen Colbert, Katie Couric,
Ralph Macchio, and The Boss’ biggest fan – his mom, Springsteen talked about
what The River is and what it meant to him.
“It was my coming of age record,” he said. “It was me trying
to fit in.”
He said the record was about him reflecting on wanting to be a man and become a father, husband and a profession that paid. Yet, being a rockstar it proved to be a dilemma, however, he knew many of the characters that he wrote about who influenced the record and the shift we all go through from leaving our 20s to our 30s and facing reality that it is time to grow up.
The River is as complex as it is long. He addressed that “I tried finding things to make it about life but also an E-Street record.”

Once the speech concluded, he took us to The River.
Playing the record from front to back, he made the songs
come alive and show cased why the anniversary of this record is so important
and why this album is still so poignant.
Almost 90-minutes later, the journey through The River was complete. Playing a
record from front to back is a complicated task for any artist, but to do it
for an album that long can be a monster. However, for this well-oiled machine,
it was another day in the office.
Anyone who has laid eyes on E-Street since the start knows
what they can do -- Nils Lofgren’s brilliant guitar work, Little Steven Van
Zandt’s outfit and showmanship that was backed by the impeccable rhythm section
of Max Weinberg on drums and Gary Tallent on bass, the band cooked. As Roy “The
Professor” Bittan tickled the ivories and Charles Giordano made his presence
heard from his organ and Soozie Tyrell’s unique voice and violin work added to
the flair the men’s club. While Jake Clemons, nephew to the late Clarence, is
the youngest member of the band, he shows he can keep up with the elder
statesmen and women of rock and roll. Noticeably
absent was Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, no word as to what caused her to
miss the show, but it went on.
Following the lengthy trip down The River, it was time for Springsteen
and the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, house-rocking, earth-quaking,
booty-shaking, Viagra-taking, love-making – Le-gen-dary E – Street – Band to
give the crowd some hits.
Barnstorming from the record to an epic performance of “Bandlands,”
“No Surrender,” “The Promised Land,” “Backstreets,” “Because the Night” and new
classics like “Lonesome Day” and “The Rising,” Springsteen entered the crowd,
touched hands, blew kisses and refused to stop.
After a moving version of “Thunder Road,” many expected them
to retreat to the wings and catch their breath. Instead they kept on truckin.’
They deserved the break but pushed on. The 66-year-old singer tired out a crowd
that was half his age.
As the houselights came on, “Born to Run” blared through the
speakers and the party did not stop as “Dancing in the Dark,” “Rosalita,” “10th
Ave. Freeze Out” and “Shout” closed the night.
Seeing this performance is awe-inspiring. If you looked around
you saw generations of fans – fathers and sons, grandmothers and
granddaughters, groups of friends from every age group gathering together under
one roof to see a hero that proved age is just a number.

Live Review: Blackalicious @ Marlin Room of Webster Hall
It was a bit difficult to muster up the confidence to go out on Thursday night following the news that Prince died. Things didn't seem right, even though the singer and this writer never met, Prince was still an important aspect to what has gone on in music and changed it forever. However, after much thought, "The Purple One" would have wanted his fans to celebrate and have a good time.
Heading down to Webster Hall, cars were blasting Prince tunes and as Good Charlotte played the main stage, the reunited Blackalicious were playing the intimate Marlin Room inside the iconic venue. The duo, who were joined by Jumbo and Lateef the Truth Speaker, brought their golden era hip-hop sounds to the small room.
With their tongues spitting lyrics at what felt like a million miles an hour, the group took fans through a timeline of songs including cuts from their latest, Imani Vol. 1, which was released in August.
Early in the performance, The Gift of Gab paused for a moment to reflect on the life of Prince. As the room was painted with the purple lights from the stage, fans got quiet for a moment of silence and then celebrated his life and legacy.
Gab, who was verbally exercising his talents, still destroys the mic. With Jumbo and Lateef, the group had two hype men that could sing, rap and get the crowd going. In some instances, Gab would take a seat, catch his breath and watch his friends go to work and entertain the room.
During the hour long set, the highlight came as they all took turns freestyling about everything from pop culture headlines to being in New York and the teams within the city. As the clock struck closer to midnight, their set came to an end. Blackalicious, despite what was happening in the music world, brought comfort and entertainment to an otherwise depressing night.

Mumford & Sons Announce 'Johannesburg' EP
During their first tour of South Africa earlier this year, Mumford & Sons recorded an EP featuring Senegal's Baaba Maal, South Africa's Beatenberg and London via Malawi band The Very Best.
They recorded the songs while on tour in the country and in June will release the EP, Johannesburg.
In a press release, the band said: "The South African Broadcasting Corporation had a room. It had two. Literally, two rooms. A few corridors away, and around the corner. It was a magnificent building though, all imposing wood panelling and endless corridors leading to more corridors. It had something a bit brutalist about it. It had a vibe."

To hear the news that Prince passed away on Thursday
afternoon was like feeling your heart crushing inside you.
Prince, like David Bowie, you felt were going to live
forever. They would go on and live to be an absurd age because they, it often
felt like, were not human. At times it felt like we lived among aliens and
gods. While many musicians will be want to be “rock gods,” few actually are.
Prince was godlike.
To hear that the 57-year-old died in his home, possibly due
to the flu is about as unbelievable as seeing a unicorn in your backyard.
Prince and death were things you just don’t think of.
But Prince, Bowie, and many of the greats we lost this year,
in fact, too many greats, were mortal.
They were of our kind but they lead a pack of special ones
-- people that will challenge the system, authority, art and even themselves.
Prince once said: “One thing I'd like to say is that I don't
live in a prison. I am not afraid of anything. I haven't built any walls around
myself, and I am just like anyone else. I need love and water.”
He was one of us. We were never one of him.
For us at Officially A Yuppie, while we never got to cover
Prince in concert or interview him, he was always an influence.
We began our “Great Soundtracks” feature because of our love
for Purple Rain – the greatest soundtrack of all time.
Like Bowie, Lemmy, Phife Dawg, George Martin, and many
others we have lost the last five months, this Prince-sized hole in the music world will be
felt for a longtime. While we still have the music, the blueprints they laid
out and ideas, there will never be another.
The world just seems a lot less funky now.

Great Soundtracks: 'Above the Rim'
By the time the mid 90s rolled around, Hollywood realized they could cash in on hip-hop. Thanks to films like Boyz N The Hood, Menace to Society, Juice and Deep Cover, street stories didn't just make it to wax but to the silver screen. By 1994, a month before Nas would release the gospel, Illmatic, the mid 90s and now classic hip-hop sound to that point was captured on the soundtrack to Above the Rim.

The film, which featured music from Tupac, who also starred in the movie, had an impressive roster of emcees and voices. From The Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg, SWV, The Lady of Rage, Dr. Dre who lent songs to the picture, none broke out more than Warren G. and Nate Dogg's "Regulate." The song would go on to become an instant classic and bring Nate Dogg into the foray of hook givers for decades. Above the Rim would go on to box office gold but 22 years later, it is the soundtrack that settles the score.

Air Announce Career Spanning Compilation
In July, pioneering ambient French musicians Air will release a career spanning retrospective album called twentyears.
The compilation will feature a "Best Of" album and a disc of rarities and B-Sides.

This sounds like a Hell of an idea -- while speaking with Noisey, Richard Ashcroft said he would like to make a musical featuring the music of Oasis and his band, The Verve. Ashcroft said: "I'd like to do a musical of [Verve] songs combined [with Oasis songs] in a story of both our youths and the combination at the end and the fact that we have crossed paths, been mates [and] looked after each other."
Iconic hip-hop group Digable Planets have announced they are reuniting for a series of concerts this summer.
Following Springsteen and Ringo Starr, Pearl Jam are 86ing their upcoming North Carolina tour stop. In a statement they posted on social media, the band said:
AC/DC's Brian Johnson released a statement on Tuesday afternoon to announce that while he will no longer be able to tour with his band, he will still record with them due to doctors saying he could permanently lose his hearing should he continue to perform on stage. He wrote: "Our fans deserve my performance to be at the highest level, and if for any reason I can't deliver that level of performance I will not disappoint our fans or embarrass the other members of AC/DC. I am not a quitter and I like to finish what I start, nevertheless, the doctors made it clear to me and my bandmates that I had no choice but to stop performing on stage for the remaining shows and possibly beyond. That was the darkest day of my professional life."
Johnson, who will be replaced by Axl Rose on the road, said: "I am personally crushed by this development more than anyone could ever imagine. The emotional experience I feel now is worse than anything I have ever in my life felt before. Being part of AC/DC, making records and performing for the millions of devoted fans this past 36 years has been my life's work. I cannot imagine going forward without being part of that, but for now I have no choice. The one thing for certain is that I will always be with AC/DC at every show in spirit, if not in person."
He also added: "I wish to assure our fans that I am not retiring. My doctors have told me that I can continue to record in studios and I intend to do that. For the moment, my entire focus is to continue medical treatment to improve my hearing. I am hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances. While the outcome is uncertain, my attitude is optimistic. Only time will tell."

Live Review: Tuelo @ Brooklyn Bowl
Some artists capture a moment in time. Some artists capture a moment of your life. Some artists capture a moment of your soul, and it is those artists that are the ones we treasure forever. South African singer Tuelo is one of those artists that manages to find her way into your soul, embed herself there so you carry her wherever you go.
On Sunday night, the singer, who is based in New York, was backed by her band, Her Cousins and performed to one of the biggest spaces she has since moving to the Big Apple a few years ago. Performing at Brooklyn Bowl is never an easy task for any artist. With so much going on, it is part upscale sports bar, part restaurant and of course, a bowling alley. Yet, with all of the noise, commotion and activities around her, Tuelo, dressed in her Sunday best, managed to captivate everyone in the room.

As a handful of people were in the concert area of the massive venue, she showed that the size of the crowd did not matter. For her, it doesn't change her show if she is playing to 30 people or 30,000, Tuelo is always going to give the audience her all. Opening with the powerful "Saint Margret," an ode to her mother, the fans knew the tune and new ears perked up when they heard the massive voice come from the diminutive singer.
In the hour long set, the singer took listeners on a journey through her life. A journey that has lived through Apartheid, the hope of Mandela and the trans-continental hustle of moving to New York to fulfill a dream. Songs like "Bombs" and "Hurricane" will drive anyone to tears just on the songwriting alone, yet, when those words become music thanks to her vocal range, it leaves you spellbound. The music, which is a cross between traditional South African, jazz, rock, gospel, R&B and soul will leave you worshiping at the alter of the musical gods that a singer like this lives in our lifetime.
For someone who has spent the last few months playing small venues like Rockwood, the fact that she is now hitting bigger stages like Brooklyn Bowl is proof that her talent is a force to be reckoned with.
Move over Adele, the greatest living singer is here and her name is Tuelo.

Hey Ho! Let's Go! Ramones Exhibit at Queens Museum
This month marks the 40th anniversary since four guys from Forrest Hills, Queens, started a musical revolution called punk rock. To celebrate The Ramones debut album, the Queens Museum in Flushing is serving up a visual timeline of the bands memorabilia, legacy and personal items.
We checked it out over the weekend, take a look at some pictures. The exhibit runs until July 31.
